The day starts about 4:00ish with a parade and goes until 4:00am! I understand this to be one of two days the Swiss "let their hair down" the other time is at Christmas, otherwise the Swiss are very serious people. Anyway, we walked down the mountain and found vendors selling roast pork, sausages, pastries, hamburgers, etc. People were dancing, singing, bands were playing and overall a good time. This celebration represents the party before harvest. The Swiss believe fairies bring good luck and it will help then for the upcoming busy season.
